P-STAT

P-Stat Inc.

The P-STAT system includes statistical analysis, data and filemanagement, survey analysis, graphics, and report-writing. P-STAT can berun from the command language or the front-end MENU system. It has aninteractive command EDITOR, online HELP, and supports macros.P-STAT handles both numeric and character data. A single variable/fieldmay contain up to 999 characters of information. Multiple files may beactive during a P-STAT session. Interfaces with other applications andfile formats include: dif, ASCII, dBase, Informix, RDB, SAS Data Step, and SPSS Export. P-STAT also reads column-binary (multipunch) data.Three types of missing data representations are available. P-STATsystems files are rectangular (sequential) and packed on disk forefficient retrieval and storage. P-STAT will introduce direct accessfile formats in early 1995.The P-STAT programming language (PPL) permits dialogs with a user usingprewritten scripts. P-STAT allows automatic execution of a set ofcommands in a macro for each BY level of a file.Data ManagementModification of existing variables, on-the-fly generation of newvariables, and selection of cases or variables. Operators and functionsinclude: DO LOOPS, wildcard and masks in variable selection, logicaltesting with IF-THEN-ELSE-ENDIF blocks, recoding of data values, systemvalues (such as .DATE., the current date). Collect groups of relatedrecords for across case processing, and then split apart with newvariables appended to the case. Numeric and character data patternmatching. Special functions for character variables permit calculationof the length and position of character strings, formation of substrings, conversion of character variables to numeric variables, and location andcompression of specific characters.File ManagementJoin or merge files with either direct, cascading table lookup, orhierarchical linkages. Sort, divide into subsets, concetenate, interleave, update, and transpose files. Duplicate cases may be detectedand deleted, or summarized into one case.Statisticsanova, arima, canonical correlation, cluster analysis, curve fitting, descriptive statistics, discriminant and factor analysis, exploratorydata analysis, linear and nonlinear regression, nonparametric tests, quality control, sample balance, survival analysis, and time series. Inaddition, the COUNTS command provides an initial overview of the data, producing frequencies and percentages of all unique values of characterand numeric variables, as well as a multitude of summary statistics.Data Displayplots (X-Y, box, stem-and-leaf, and more), histograms, cross-tabulation,stub-and-banner survey displays with PostScript support High resolution,X Window System-based, presentation graphics with pie charts, plots, andhistograms.Report-Writinglistings with totals, subtotals, titles, means. Report-generator withfull "PUT" language allows extensive tailoring of reports and hasPostScript support.Several add-on modules to P-STAT's Base Program include: Data Entry -- afull-screen, interactive, menu-oriented data entry program; TABS -- stub-and-banner survey displays and sample balance program; AdvancedStatistics -- survival analysis, nonlinear regression, canonicalcorrelation, and time series; Informix Interface -- direct interface tothe Informix DBMS using SQL; and PX-Graph -- X Window System-basedpresentation graphics (pie charts and graphs) supporting up to 10windows.
